Embankments
The embankments often represent the highest point of the landscape and ideal observation points over the underneath environment. They separate the world of the river from the world of man and have changed the delta outline: as a matter of fact, the ancient deltas had a rounded shape and advanced slowly; the present delta is point-shaped - the so-called deltaic point - and rapidly advances towards the center, since the embankments concentrate the sandy deposits in the most active mouths of the river.
